Getting Your Teen to Wear BracesFamily Dental Care: Helping everyone.

Parents find it difficult to convince their teenage children to wear braces. These devices are usually recommended by an orthodontist to straighten and align a person’s teeth thus correcting the bite and improving the person’s overall dental hygiene.

One main problem of braces is its use of wires and ligatures. These are used to put pressure on the teeth to correct any problem and are very effective. They also do not require that much in terms of maintenance. Patients, however, have been found out to develop mouth sores due to the brackets and in the first few days of being attached, braces are often very uncomfortable.

braces

The good news is that there are now a lot of alternative products that your teenager can use. Some orthodontists suggest the use of Invisalign. Unlike other products out in the market, this deviceuses aligners that slowly move your teeth to the correct position. The aligners are easy to remove and very much comfortable to wear. The most interesting thing about it is that it is clear or near invisible.

Their newest product is the Invisalign Teen. Compared to other product available, this one takes into account the fact that teenagers still have to get all their adult teeth. Depending on the age of the person, there are stages of teeth development as well.

It uses the same technology as with the original but with some nifty additional features. This new product has a color compliance indicator. What this simply means is that the device gives you an idea if it is time to replace it. When the color starts to fade, then it may be time go back to your orthodontist and have it replaced.

The Invisalign has already been known for being customized. This product takes it a step further. It now includes special features that are designed to correct different types of teeth be it canine, or second and third molars. The product does not only suit the lifestyle that your teenager has but the customized way of treating dental problems make it more effective.

How good is the product? One example often cited is about a patient that not only had a crossbite on one side of the mouth but also had a gap in between the front teeth. The patient’s option included possible jaw surgery. Through the use of this product, not only was the crossbite fixed but the gap between the teeth was closed. The patient therefore was able to avoid spending too much through surgery. Not yet convinced? There was also the case of a patient that had crowded teeth. Through this product, the problem was solved and with the addition of a whitening gel, the teeth became whiter.

Some parents though may find the Invisalign a bit pricier compared to other methods but the results and comfort of using one outweighs the cost. To be able to make a better decision for your teenager as to what method to use, consult with your family orthodontist.

Every parent should know what to look for in a pediatric dentistFamily Dental Care: Helping everyone. Choosing a dentist for your child isn’t easy.  There are a lot of practices out there and there are also a lot of dentists that don’t have specific pediatric experience, so you need to know who you can weed out.  At the right pediatric dentistry practice, your child won’t be just a patient but they will be considered family.  We all know that going to the dentist is not the most fun, especially for children.  So it would be great to find a place where your child can receive top rated dental care without the normally associated childhood trauma.Experienced pediatric dentistry practices will start getting to know your child early on, and can begin preventative treatments beginning at 12 months and up.  This relationship can last all the way up until your baby is no longer a baby but a teenager or early adult.  Sticking with the same dentist throughout childhood will help better ensure that problems are detected early and healthy habits are instilled early and often.  An extra plus would be that visiting the dentist would turn out to be a positive experience for your child, not a scary one.  Getting to know the dentists and dental hygienists early on will establish great relationships early on and will make each visit feel like just that; a visit.  And the more frequently your child visits their pediatric dentist, the more likely they are to build and maintain a healthy smile with minimal issues along the way.

Only the best pediatric dentistry practices make sure to remain full-time advocates of your child’s dental health.  To do this, they provide personalized care that is different for each patient and level of oral development.  You should make sure to find a practice that regularly schedules cleanings as well as preventative screenings so that any problems can be caught and treated early.  Pediatric dentists have more specialized training than other family dentists who might unknowingly overlook the early signs of trouble in pediatric patients.  These types of specially trained dentists know the dental needs of children, and have taken additional boards and passed certifications for just that.

So why should you choose a pediatric dentist over a family dentist for your children?  In a nutshell, pediatric dentists have received more training on the subject.  They are required to complete additional advanced courses in this specialty, and they also usually work is specially designed offices that make children feel more comfortable and more welcome.  Pediatric dentists make sure to stay current on the latest advanced in dentistry practices and research for children, just like any family dentist would for adults.  This provides a little more peace of mind for parents who worry that they children are getting the best possible dental care.  With pediatric dentists who will focus on your child’s care and make it a point to develop lasting relationships, you can rest a little more.  Just don’t be afraid to ask questions and remain proactive in your child’s care.  After all, your pediatric dentist will expect that!

Family dentistry during hockey season is getting easier.Family Dental Care: Helping everyone.

When was the last time you took your children to the dentist? I know that it has been a while for my kids, I like to wait until the end of hockey season before I set up appointments for my children.  The simple truth of it is that if I don’t wait, then at least one of the high school teams (my son and my daughter both play varsity hockey) will make it into the playoffs and at least one of my children will wind up knocking out their freshly straightened incisors by blocking a shot late in the third period.  Last season my son Steve took a puck to the chin and had all of his lower front teeth broken.  After the game I brought him to Southmoor Pediatric Dentistry for emergency work to cap his broken teeth and prevent any further damage from being done.  At the end of the season I made sure to bring him right back to Southmoor Pediatric Dentistry and have brand new, sparkling white caps put on so that he could look great in his school photos.  And wow, you should see that brilliant smile!  There is an old joke about having a grin like a hockey player, but I know that I wouldn’t mind having a grin like my hockey playing son has now.  My daughter also needed work done after the season, but nothing so extreme.  All that happened was she chipped one of her front teeth when a stick came up on her; she needed to get seven stitches on her chin but it barely touched her teeth at all (and no penalty on the play!).  We were definitely lucky it wasn’t worse.  We were also lucky to have a good dentist like Southmoor Pediatric Dentistry to help us out.  How did sports parents deal with the gaps in their kids’ smiles before family dentistry was easily available?  Especially back before things like helmets, mouth guards, and face shields were made requirements to participate in high school sports?  I know that I can’t imagine taking my son to a dental office that uses the old, terrifying methods of yesteryears’ dentists.  The new, modern dental equipment – like they have at Southmoor Pediatric Dentistry – makes it so much less traumatizing to bring your kids to the dentist and get the quality care that they deserve.  Even my youngest – she is only just turning ten this month – has no problem with going because the dentists and hygienists are so kind and friendly to her.  She is always really proud when she comes home with no cavities.  The way in which Southmoor Pediatric Dentistry helps build positive associations with dental health for my children has been amazing.  I wish that I had grown up with such a good impression of dentists instead of the fear of them I have that persists to this very day.  Maybe I would have been able to do that if Southmoor Pediatric Dentistry had been around in those days!

Dentists Advocate Brushing and Flossing for Good Reasons.Family Dental Care: Helping everyone.

From the time you are a child, everyone tells you to always brush and floss your teeth.  Like washing your hands and looking both ways before crossing the street, it is something that should be utterly ingrained in your mind by the time you are an adult.  Unfortunately, a lot of adults still do not practice good oral hygiene.  Not taking good care of your teeth and gums has a negative effect on your mouth, but also on your overall health.  Bad hygiene habits have been linked to higher rates of a bunch of common chronic conditions.  Dentistsadvocate brushing and flossing for good reasons.  If you are not brushing at least twice a day, you could be increasing your risk for various health problems, in addition to cavities and gingivitis.  The other half of maintaining good oral hygiene is seeing a dentist regularly.  If you have at least two dentist appointments per year, you will be less likely to develop gingivitis or a serious cavity.  Both of these conditions can be treated if you catch them before they get out of hand.  If you are not keeping up with your dentist appointments, though, you may be allowing these conditions to develop or progress.  Having a dentist that you go to regularly is often the best way to go about things.  That is one problem with moving to a new city.  You have to find new doctors and dentists.  If you live in downtown Denver and do not want to drive far, you should look for a dentist in downtown Denver to save yourself the inconvenience of driving.

Cosmetic Dentists Can Give You that Perfect SmileFamily Dental Care: Helping everyone.

These days, everyone seems to be looking for a cosmetic dentist who can give them a perfect smile. There are many cosmetic procedures that your dentist can offer to address different needs. These procedures include teeth whitening or bleaching; enamel shaping and contouring, bonding, veneers, crowns, braces, bridges, and dental implants.

Depending on your habits, your teeth can acquire stains and show discoloration. Most smokers and people who are fond of consuming caffeine-rich beverages such as tea and coffee are prone to having yellow teeth. Any dentist can provide teeth whitening services.

perfect smile

Your dentist will use a chemical process to bleach stained teeth, which can be done either in the dental office or in your own home. Since many patients find whitening procedures done at home more convenient, dentists create personalized mouthpiece trays for patients to use. These trays ensure that the right amount of peroxide solution is applied to the teeth. However, in-office procedures offer faster results compared to whitening at home, which can two or more weeks depending on the strength of the solution.

For people who have gaps between their teeth or have chipped, cracked, or broken teeth, a cosmetic dentist will recommend undergoing a bonding procedure. The materials used for bonding can also be used to fill cavities and protect an exposed tooth root. Bonding can last for several years but it is prone to staining, chipping, and wearing down.

Veneers, on the other hand, last longer than bonding. These are custom shells applied on the front sides of the teeth to change either its shape or color. They are usually made from ultra thin porcelain but there are also veneers made of plastic. This cosmetic procedure can improve teeth with gaps in between, chipped or worn teeth, poorly shaped teeth, and slightly crooked teeth. If your teeth are permanently stained, your dentist may also recommend veneers.

Dental implants are recommended for patients with missing teeth. This is a quite costly cosmetic dentistry procedure but it offers a long-term solution to replace teeth. Implants are alternatives to bridges and removable dentures. An implant has three essential parts, specifically titanium metal, an abutment, and the crown.

A cosmetic dentist can create a crown with a natural, tooth-like appearance. The crown completely covers the tooth. It is also used to restore a tooth to normal shape. In addition to covering dental implants, a crown can be used to cover a misshapen tooth, a stained tooth, a tooth with a large filling, and a tooth that has undergone a root canal procedure. You may also need a crown to protect a weak tooth, restore a broken tooth, and hold a dental bridge in place.

Cosmetic dentistry has a lot to offer individuals who want to improve their physical appearances, especially their smiles. Still, as with any cosmetic procedure, there are both benefits and risks that you should be informed of before you decide to undergo any of these processes. It is best to talk to your dentist regarding these pros and cons, along with clarifying all possible fees, special maintenance requirements, and professional expertise.

Busting my front tooth and needing a cosmetic dentist to fix itFamily Dental Care: Helping everyone. Posted on April 21, 2014 by Shauna

The last few months I have gotten really into gymnastics and partner acrobatics, it is a really fun way to get into shape and meet new people. Because most of the stuff we are doing is quite a bit off the ground I have seen a few people fall or hut themselves in one way or another. Of course we all try to be as careful as possible but sometimes accidents happen. Unfortunately I experienced my first accident a week ago when I was trying to learn a few things on something called a hand-balancing stand. Try to imagine, it is essentially a piece of wood on the ground with two poles coming upward with little wood blocks on each end. The idea is that you grab the two little blocks of wood and can do handstands or whatever other kind of maneuver holding your weight with your arms. I may have been a little ahead of myself given that I have almost no upper body strength and was trying to use this thing anyway. I made it for a few seconds before my arm gave out under me and I came crashing to the floor. It wouldn’t have been so bad except on my way down my face fell right on one of the wood blocks. Specifically, my mouth hit right on the block, launching half of my tooth away from its happy and content place in my mouth. At first I was just shocked that I had fallen and then the intense pain of hitting my mouth hit me. It took me a minute to realize that half of my tooth was gone but as soon as I realized I freaked out. I have never done something like this before and it was a little shocking to my system. I really don’t want to go around with only half of a tooth so I called the cosmetic dentistas soon as I got home. I told the dentist that it was a bit of an emergency and that I would really like to get in for an appointment as soon as possible so he was nice enough to schedule me in. I am not really sure what he will have to do, if it would be possible to add on some sort of fake half tooth to the stub that is remaining or if I will have to get the remaining tooth piece removed and get some sort of fake tooth. I am trying not to be too panicky about this but it is hard to keep calm. I know that this isn’t really that big of a deal, worst case I have a fake tooth, but I still can’t help but be nervous and freak out a bit. I guess that all I can do is wait until I meet with the cosmetic dentistnext week and see what he says and what my options are. As much as I don’t want a fake tooth if it is my only option than it sure is better than going around with only half of a front tooth.

Cosmetic dentistry can help return your smile.Family Dental Care: Helping everyone.

One of the most moving nonprofits on the planet is called Smile Train.  Smile Train works with kids in developing countries that are born with cleft palates.  A cleft palate is when the top of the mouth is not fully formed and as a result, children are born with a marked split upper lip.  It is difficult to breathe and eat and there is often a lot of social stigma around the problem. To fix this problem, Smile Train goes into these areas and helps the kids by performing the surgeries free of cost.  Considering that many of these kids often do not go to school, due to the fact that many of these kids receive so much harsh stigma, the economic benefits of this program are immeasurable.  This sort of procedure happens here, in the United States, as well.

It is worth keeping an eye on these kids of procedures and acknowledging the impact that they can have on people’s lives.  Nevertheless, there are also a number of other procedures that many of these cosmetic dentists perform.  Many cosmetic dentists also do dental implantsand oral surgery in addition to the cleft palate surgery. These surgeries, while they are all different, do a great job for when it comes time to improving someone’s smile. There was a recent survey of human resources generalists around the first impressions they get when they are interviewing someone.  By far and away the most common response was the smile.  People often see the smile before anything else and as a result, they are able to make a decision based off of their entire impression.  People that do not have the ability to fully smile are losing out on this benefit and that often comes with taking care of your teeth and medically being comfortable with your smile. One of the best ways to ensure that you are going to be comfortable with your smile is to take care of your teeth.  This sounds like an easy enough process, but it rarely is.  Cosmetic dentistry allows for all people to be comfortable with their smiles. This, again, is something that is immeasurable for when it comes to putting the economic impact in a frame of focus.

If you are someone that is looking at getting some kind of cosmetic dentistry work done, then look no further than Devaney Dentistry right here in North Carolina.  Devaney Denistry specializes in making sure that people are contentwith their smile.  They can do a number of different procedures that will make people all over the area happy with the results.  By carefully selecting staff that have the ability to be precise, efficient, and happy, the dentist office is able to be successful in many of its endeavors to ensure that people are repeat customers and are able to come back with a positive outlook on what they have experienced.  Word of mouth is the best form of marketing and that is what the office is able to rely on and promote.

Avoiding Dental Care can Cause More Harm in the FutureFamily Dental Care: Helping everyone.

Do you find that you are constantly covering your mouth when someone makes you laugh? Perhaps you don’t even realize how much this actually affects you when you are in social settings. A persons mouth is often the first thing we notice about one another when we meet new people and smiling is always the best opportunity to catch someone when they are at their best. If you are constantly covering up your best features, how are people going to really get to know you. In a perfect world, we would all be able to smile with ease no matter how crooked our teeth are or how smelly our breath gets. Unfortunately, that is not the reality we are dealing with today. More and more people are seeking cosmetic dentistry to straighten out their problem mouths. But little do people realize, cosmetic dentistry can also be very much about your overall dental health. Don’t avoid your regular visits to the dentist and certainly don’t avoid seeing a specialist for options that might be able to help with your overall dental health and also your confidence.

So many of us are prone to shove the whole dentist idea to the back of our minds so that we don’t have to deal with it. Some of us are holding onto our irrational childish fears we had of the dentist at a young age. Others are constantly dealing with cavities and other expensive problems and for the sake of their bank account would rather not go back just to find out more bad news. Thanks to the newest advances in dental technology today, dentists are able to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Instead of those awful sharp little picks and the constant sound of drilling and sucking, you will actually be exposed to different machines and tools to ease the anxiety around those sounds. Who knows, you might even be able to relax a little bit in that big cushy chair.

You can schedule a completely free consultation with Riverfront Dental and have a dentist take a look at your mouth to let you know if anything is in jeopardy to your dental health. Professionals here are the lead in the field of dentistry and are specially trained in the newest dental technologies. They are able to focus 100 percent on your specific needs and concerns whether they are embarrassing problems that make you feel vulnerable or they are issues reaching a point of being so painful that it changes your eating habits. Whatever end of the spectrum you might find yourself on, they are seen as equally problematic and can dentists at Riverfront can diagnose you with the same sense of urgency that you are feeling about the issue.

Feel free to read all about the array of services Riverfront Dental offers before you decide to schedule an appointment for your free consultation. Your dental hygiene is more important to you than you realize and proper oral care is crucial for so many aspects of your life.

races Make a Beautiful Smile a Healthy SmileFamily Dental Care: Helping everyone.

A beautiful smile can be a game-changer. When you seek out an orthodontist in Charleston, you are making an investment in a beautiful smile that will last a lifetime. And this seems to be the primary association with braces. Most people seem to think about braces being a means to a beautiful smile, and they are. Braces allow you to correct mistakes (like unconsciously pushing your teeth with your tongue, as I did as a child) or straightening up the teeth that just came in as they did. But as much as people associate orthodontics with beauty and aesthetics, the health benefits are just as pronounced. There is a tight relationship between the beauty of your teeth and the health of them, and the relationship tends to be a positive one. I do not mean that it is a good relationship but that that as one variable (beauty) increases, the other variable (healthiness) increases by the same margin. So the healthier your teeth are, the better they are going to look. Straight teeth have healthy gums. Your teeth fit together in nice, neat little rows, and the roots are doing the same thing underneath the surface. Your baby teeth do not sink in deep roots, but the teeth that you have as an adult depend greatly upon the health of those gums. If you catch crookedness early, you will be able to correct gums gone awry and fix them more easily. Beyond the straightness of the gums, braces also help you chewing motion. For people with relatively straight teeth, it may seem like a silly thing, but consider how important chewing is for your health. I think that someone that has ever had mouth surgery, such as getting their wisdom teeth removed, can appreciate the importance of being able to fully chew your food. Your teeth are supposed to fit together like the cogs of a gear. When they are not straight, this chewing motion is not properly done. Braces improve your ability to fully chew your food, thus, digesting it fully and extracting the maximum nutrients out of it. The last reason that it is good for your overall health to have straight teeth also has to do with straight teeth. You teeth are easier to clean when you have straight teeth. Flossing and brushing is done more easily when you have a straight path between teeth. But the most interesting thing (to me, at least) with the relationship between beautiful teeth and healthy teeth is that one is an epiphenomenon of the other. I find it interesting to reflect upon the idea that where you find one, you are bound to encounter the other. This increases the urgency that one might have to take care of their teeth. You want to make sure that you teeth are healthy so that they yield an attractive smile. In this case, the immediate benefit and the long-term benefit are inextricable. Braces help you achieve both with one in the same route.

Bride to be, Nearly Panics Over News That She Needs Braces.
Family Dental Care: Helping everyone.

Planning a wedding can be extremely stressful. Jamie had been so excited and surprised when her boyfriend, Greg, had proposed, but she had not thought about everything that needed to go into planning their wedding. Immediately after telling their families the good news, the questions started rolling in: When were they going to have it? How many people could the venue hold? Would each set of parents be able to invite all of the friends they wanted to bring?

Jamie and Greg were stunned. They had no idea how much their families were going to weigh in on all of their decisions, and how long the guest list would get. They had a specific budget in mind but it was clear they were going to have trouble staying under it if all of their parents’ friends and their kids were invited. It was starting to seem like they did not have any control over their own wedding.

Adding to Jamie’s stress was her most recent appointment with her orthodontist. After years of having perfectly healthy teeth and not even a cavity, he was recommending that she consider getting braces as her teeth had started to shift ever so slightly. She pointed out that she was planning on getting married in the next year, and he reminded her that if her teeth continued to shift, she might have a gap in her front teeth she did not want on her wedding day. Frustrated, Jamie had gone home and complained to Greg about the position she felt she was being put in. One more expense, and one more decision she would have to make about their wedding day with everyone else’s input.

Greg suggested that she look into alternatives such as Invisalign, and that seemed to make the most sense to her. She consulted with her orthodontist who agreed it was the perfect option for her, and she ended up making the appointment to have them put on. She consulted with the photographer as well, knowing that she would still have them on during her wedding day, and the photographer assured her that even if they were slightly visible in the pictures that she would be able to edit them out. Jamie was relieved she would not have to look back on her wedding day and see the braces that she knew were there.

Once all of the family members calmed down and the guest list was narrowed down to only close friends and family, Jamie felt like she could finally relax and get to enjoy the planning. She loved design and party planning, and was deeply interested in her color scheme and decorations. Relieved at the thought that her teeth would be straight and at least look braces-free in pictures, she was able to sit back and relax, and ultimately enjoyed the rest of her wedding planning. It is coming up in just a couple of weeks, and she and Greg cannot wait to see how all of their hard work has turned out!

November, 2014 | Family Dentist Reviews: Great DentistsFamily Dental Care: Helping everyone.

When most people think about preventative care for their teeth, they think about brushing their teeth twice a day and flossing just as frequently. Many people imagine that this is sufficient for keeping your teeth and gums in the best health. Unfortunately, this is just not the case. There are a lot of other preventative periodontal measures that you should take in order to make sure that your teeth are in the best possible shape. After all, we rely on our teeth for quite a bit. From chewing to expressing emotion to other more functional things, we need our teeth in good health in order to live our lives in the way that we are currently accustomed. Without good oral and dental health, this just will not be the option that we want it to be. That’s why the periodontists and dental health experts at Boulder Periodontics have worked so hard to make your dental and oral health a priority, both when you visit their office in addition to when you go home and begin handling your own dental care.

Perhaps the most important part of dental health that folks often forget to pay attention to is the close monitoring of their gums. If you do not take good care of your gums, you are definitely at risk for gum disease and other diseases of the mouth. We often forget that in order to protect against the many diseases that seek to assault our mouths, we must always be looking out for the best way to do more for our teeth. Boulder Periodontics does this really well by helping you not only get the consistent teeth cleaning you need, but also by helping you identify possible problem areas. One thing that you should do to ensure that your teeth in are good health is to consistently screen for oral cancer, especially if there is a history of oral cancer in your family. Indeed, this is an important part of a dental visit for any patient. There have been so many advances in periodontal technology that it can be easy to see markers of a potential issue much earlier than ever before. This is the kind of promising treatment that people with oral cancer can hope for as it will allow treatment before the problems are irreversible.

Oral cancer screenings are easy to perform and can save you a lot of issues in the long term. By using a device that employs ultraviolet light, periodontists are able to see abnormalities that would not usually be able to be seen under normal conditions. Additionally, your overall health has a big role to play in your periodontal health, and talking with your periodontist about the health and lifestyle conditions that could impact your risk of oral cancer can also help you avoid oral cancer. The most important thing to remember is that undergoing frequent screenings in order to detect any possible problems early on will lead to a higher likelihood of stopping issues in their tracks.

There are a bunch of horror stories out there involving going to the dentist. We have heard how afraid people are, heard about the blood, the gas, the awful pain. But that is not something that we have to buy into. Those certainly are not the only dental experiences that are out there. Going to the dentist doesn’t have to be an awful experience. You can find an educated and experienced family dentist that is committed to making your dental experience one that feels empowering and educational as opposed to stressful and overwhelming. There is no need to take calming medicines before going to the dentist if you are going to the right dentist.

So who is the “right” dentist. That is a great question.

1. The right dentist is someone that understands they are there to work for you. They don’t have their values out of line in the sense that they put your dental hygiene and dental health first.

2. It’s not about making money to them, it’s about being a healer for people. The right family dentist is someone who goes into this field wanting to help people feel better and take better care of themselves.

3. The right dentist is also someone who is able to offer pediatric dentistry as a part of their work. Little one’s teeth need to be cared for immediately as it can set the tone for their life’s dental health.

4. Finding the right dentist means finding someone that will also offer you educational opportunities. Be that helping you to teach your child how to properly brush their teeth or to inform you of ways that you are can better care for your specific dental situation.

5. You know you have found the right dentist when they customize their services to you. If you are someone who has sensitive gums then they will make sure to be gentle with you and also give you tools to help care for your gums.

6. Something that no one should ever underestimate is the power of a compassionate dentist. A lot of people feel stress about going to the dentist and it doesn’t have to be that way if you have found a family dentist is willing to be patient with you and make you feel comfortable no matter what.

7. A good dentist is someone who is educated and experienced. If you are someone who has complex mouth issues or intense emotional responses to a dental visit than going to a dentist that has a lot of education and experience can make you feel safer and more confident.

Smiling is the universal sign of happiness. It is a language we are able to speak no matter where we are in the world and being able to flash those pearly whites at others should be a fun way to communicate. Psychologists are saying that smiling can even boost your mood and improve your attitude.  Unfortunately for some, smiling isn’t always easy because they feel self conscious about their teeth. In a modern world where flawless features are highly valued, a crooked smile can often lead to issues with poor self esteem. As a result, the world of orthodontics is a constantly growing and changing field offering convenient solutions for many to feel empowered to make choices about their teeth in order to change their smiles. Orthodontists from all over are helping thousands of people better their self esteem with varying orthodontic solutions.

In this day and age, it is more normal than not for kids to have braces put on their teeth once they reach middle school or high school. But what about adults? Thanks to new dental technology, more and more people today are having their smiles adjusted with orthodontics and can do so without other people even noticing.Invisalign is a fairly recent development in cosmetic dentistry that aligns the teeth and bite similarly to dental braces. This method has become extremely popular because clear, plastic retainers are used instead of metal brackets that are adhered to the teeth. The Invisalign treatment is often utilized by adults working in the professional world who do not necessarily want to change their image with traditional dental braces. Even though Invisalign orthodontics tend to be a slightly more expensive solution for tooth alignment, there are many more perks that come with using Invisalign.

1. This method is far less painful than dental braces because the smooth retainers used to re-adjust and align will not rub against the cheeks or gums. Also, the step by step process of switching out retainers every two weeks moves the teeth slower and more comfortably.

2. We are all too familiar with insults such as “Brace Face” and “Metal Mouth” and no one should be subject to those kinds of insults. Invisalign comes with a much less negative connotation than traditional metal braces. The clear plastic is able to shift the teeth without anyone being able to notice along the way.

3. The Invisalign retainer can be removed at will allowing those in the process of correcting their teeth to go about brushing and flossing the same way they would normally do so. Orthodontists recommend leaving the retainers in for 22 hours everyday so that proper movement can occur, yet still allowing for some flexibility to remove and clean after meals.

4. Playing sports and other physical activities come with less risks when you have Invisalign versus metal brackets that can scrape your mouth or break off upon impact.

When considering alternative options for straightening your smile, a proper consultation is always recommended. Many service providers can be researched online and contacted in order to answer all the questions you may have.

A Dentist Office Should Be ComfortableFamily Dental Care: Helping everyone.

Some people just dread the dentist’s office. They think that it is this terrible place. Personally, I do not know what they are talking about. I mean, it is not the same thing as going out for a steak dinner or winning the lottery. I do not get particularly excited about seeing the dentist, but I do not have this same kind of intense dread that some people seem to have picked up from who knows where. And yet, this perception of the dentist as this malicious wielder of implements of destruction that is some kind of morbid toothfairy that is after your teeth persists. If I were a dentist, I would go to great lengths to dismiss this somewhat absurd notion of the dentist as a villain. I would try to undo these misperceptions that the dentist’s office is a place to avoid.

The first thing that I would do is to make my office as comfortable as possible for the patients. At some dentist’s offices that you go to, they have a few chairs lining the walls and some outdated magazines of idiosyncratic tastes. But I have been to other dentist’s office in which the waiting room is a seriously relaxing and comfortable place. The place where I used to get my braces adjusted had video games for the kids, but they also have coffee and TV for the adults. I routinely heard kids protesting when their names were called to see the dentist, not because they dreaded this dentist boogeyman, but because they were too busy having fun in the waiting room. They were having fun in the waiting room? That’s right. And I can imagine that the parents probably protested a bit when they had to leave their nice, comfortable chairs with the TV and coffee to get back to the humdrum of life.

The other thing that I would want to ensure in order to make my dentist’s office a comfortable place for the patients would be to hire friendly, approachable people. The staff can make the difference between a cold, distant experience and one that resembles the bar from “Cheers!” This was like the dentist’s office that I went to as a kid. I liked the dentists, but I also felt very positively about the staff that worked at the dentist’s office. They always knew me personally and would ask me questions about what was going on in my life. It was a great environment for me to end up fostering positive feeling about the dentist’s office. I like to believe that this has somehow altered my attitudes and dispositions about the dentist, thus making me more inclined to practice good dental health practices now.

But this dentist’s office is not just a made up thought experiment. This is not me just imagining an ideal place. Note that I have also made many mentions of place that I had personally visited. Be diligent in your hunt for a Highlands dentist that can offer you all of things that can make your experience at the dentist comfortable.
